Windsor and Detroit are unique in that they are the most closely linked cities on the Canadian/American border. Residents on both sides of the border think of the Windsor/Detroit area as one large city as opposed to two cities in two different countries. People routinely commute over the border to work, shop, travel and to enjoy the amenities of each other’s country. Traffic across the border exceeds 10 million vehicles annually. The Globe and Mail reports "Traffic though the Windsor tunnel has jumped 73 percent since 1993, making it the entry of choice for one in five Americans travelling to Canada by car." The Windsor Airport, located just 13 km (8 miles) from downtown Detroit, is actually closer to the downtown Detroit business district than Detroit Metropolitan Airport. In fact, many American customers routinely fly from Windsor Airport! A 1996 passenger survey showed that 13% of passengers travelling that week were from the greater Detroit area. Current data reveals that these US passengers have increased to more than 30%.
Once they have used the convenient, friendly service at Windsor airport, there is a very high return rate for following flights. Call (519) 969-2430 and our automatic switchboard will give you easy directions from either the bridge or the tunnel, or click here for a route map. |
