Windsor and Detroit are unique in that they are the most closely linked cities on the Canadian/American border. Residents on both sides of the border think of the Windsor/Detroit area as one large city as opposed to two cities in two different countries.

A 1996 passenger survey showed that 13% of passengers travelling that week were from the greater Detroit area. Current data reveals that these US passengers have increased to more than 30%.

Eighty four percent of these American passengers stated they no longer used Detroit’s Metro Airport to fly to Toronto or other Canadian destinations.
